You may not realise for most home, wardrobe is perhaps the second largest piece of furniture in your bedroom. Similar to the bed, you normally don’t move it around once it is placed in the bedroom. As such, selecting the right wardrobe can be quite challenging. There are a number of decision you have to make in order to get the right piece os wardrobe. Below are some guidelines to help you for this task.:-

1. What you want to store in the wardrobe.

2. Do you like a stand alone wardrobe or fitted type.

To begin with, you have to answer the three questions stated above. So, what you want to store in the wardrobe? If not for cloths, what else you may ask!  Have you ever experience your wardrobe ran our of space after a while? Do not take it lightly, I conducted a simple personal interview with a several friends and office colleagues and found that people use wardrobe for their cloths and not for long. Most admitted that their wardrobe ran out of space after a while. Then it ended up have second and third wardrobe somewhere in the house.

One of the key consideration for your size of wardrobe is the space available in the bedroom. If you have amber space, then it is not an issue but most bedroom has certain size. When taking dimension at the location you prefer, make sure you measure the maximum space available not wall to wall but measure from the skirting at the foot of the wall as it is jerk out from the wall and may take up half an inch. Beware of the vertical space too, some home has sloping ceiling which do not give you the vertical space as you may thought. Don’t end up having a wardrobe that can’t fit the space. After you have decided the location for the wardrobe, ensure you have space to open the door of the wardrobe. Sound funny, but it is not because it has no fun when you actually do not have space to open the wardrobe door fully.

A stand alone or freestanding wardrobes are designed to fit most home. Whereas a fitted wardrobe will maximize space available and can give the room a more pleasant look. A freestanding wardrobe actually take up more effective space because3 it rarely fully utilise the space in area they are placed. Having said that, there are advantages in free standing wardrobe that worth consideration.

One of the advantages is due to its nature, you can move and change the location of wardrobe when you decided to change the layout of your room. This flexibility is invaluable especially you first move into a room and have no idea the final layout.

Furthermore, a stand-alone wardrobe is the ability to move them with you when you decide to move your home. A stand-alone wardrobe by design allow you to disassemble and reassemble more often. If you think that you are likely to move your wardrobe around then it is definitely worth thinking about knock down wardrobes or pre-assembled wardrobes instead of flat packed wardrobes. A flat packed wardrobe typically require screwing and gluing in order to achieve a stable finish whereas knock down and preassembled wardrobes do not. If you want to see what is the difference, go to your nearest furniture store to take a look.

When come to the size of a wardrobe, there are the standard double and triple wardrobe for a freestanding type. For a double wardrobe, the are two section for which one section is for the hanging and the other is for the drawers. As for the triple wardrobe, there are two section for the hanging and one section for the drawers. The hanging section for the triple wardrobe can be side by side or designed to have it on the left and right of a triple wardrobe. Leaving the centre for the drawers.

On the other hand, a fitted wardrobe is ideal if you want to maximise your bedroom layout. With proper measuring, it can fill up every inch of space as well as offer customise design. If you have a big space for a fitted wardrobe, you can do more than the triple type as space is allowed.  The difference is what compartment you want the wardrobe to consist.

There are several freestanding Wardrobe choices available to suit your needs. Some are stated below:-

Open hanging

Topless or Open hanging wardrobes are typically the cheapest among all other wardrobes. By its name, it has not top or slides which dramatically cuts down production cost. One consideration is the appearance of it as cloths are exposed. The other distinct disadvantage of open hanging wardrobes is dust collection on cloths from the settling of dust within the room.

Flat Packed or self assembly

Flat packed wardrobes are still the cheapest and most commonly sold wardrobe solution in the UK today. Of course the shipping cost is cheaper for a triple wardrobe compared to a double wardrobe. The savings in shipping costs makes them extremely competitive to produce and the willingness of the consumer to construct the item themselves saves valuable pounds as well. In recent years, developments in designs have gone a long way to improve the end quality of a flat packed wardrobe.

Pre-assembled

A pre-assembled double or triple wardrobes have become more expensive due to increased in fuel price and transportation cost. It is less common these days especially the triple wardrobe as compared to other assembly type. For a pre-assembled double and triple wardrobe, it comes pre-assembled with all components pre-fitted. One of the unforeseen problem for a Pre-assembled triple wardrobes is its mobility when you try to move it into your home due to tide corridor and corners in your house.

Knock Down

A Knock down type whether for a double or triple wardrobe has been one of the biggest developments in wardrobe retail in the last 10 years. A knock down wardrobe that uses bolts and non permanent fixings to allow the user to take the item apart and re-assemble it on the final structure of the wardrobe. Bolts and screws and other pre-made accessories allow the final constructed wardrobes to retain a large proportion of the sturdiness and durability of a pre-assembled wardrobe.
